ABOUT

Raised in the port town of Whitstable in the 1970s, I developed an interest in the functionality of architecture, not only the history behind the design but also how it was developed and why and what purpose it served. From an early age, I studied contemporary maps, watched the ships serving the local harbour and discovered the looming pit wheels and the power stations of the East Kent coalfields. These observations further fed my fascination in industrial history and design; how the associated buildings and structures not only enabled the respective industries, but also became a vital part of local social and community history.

Since qualifying as an architect I have been involved in numerous regeneration projects, researching historical buildings, often derelict or redundant, and bringing them back into use - giving them a new life and purpose for generations to come. My passion for industrial architecture has continued to grow parallel with my job, inspiring me to research and record the industrial buildings of the world - the mills of northern England, the factories of the Midlands - the industry of the Ruhr Valley in Germany, the incredible grain behemoths of the Great Plains and Lakes in the US.

My life is dominated by the architecture which in turn dominates landscapes around the world - I conserve them as buildings and celebrate them in photography and the printed and published form.
